4 Ways Hold Attention with Social Video

You’ve done the hard part, you’ve captured your viewers attention in the first 3 seconds with your brilliant social-first video of a monkey dousing his pits with a sustainable deodorant whilst riding a deer. But how do you hold this attention and cultivate it to keep your precious viewer engaged?

1.Curiosity

Humans are very curious chimps. As soon as we are presented with puzzles, metaphors or questions, we feel a burning desire to find answers, otherwise we don’t sleep well at night. If you can add a bit of mystery to your ads or build some suspense then you’ll be able to hold your viewer’s attention. Don’t give them the whole biscuit straight off the bat, you need to keep them coming back for more.

2.Simplicity

It is important to distill your ideas down to their simplest form. You don’t want to confuse viewers with complex ideas especially on social media where you are competing for people’s time.

3. Narratives

Stories are a universal language that we are hardwired to listen to. This makes them the best way to communicate with your intended audience. Whether it’s by following the three act structure (setup > confrontation > resolution), showing a connected series of events or having a protagonist talk to the viewer.

4.Provide Value

We’ve heard it all a million times before but it remains just as important. You can do this in two ways: through entertaining content or informative content. Make your viewer laugh/cry/smile or teach them something they didn’t already know.

Ticking off as many of these points as possible will ensure that your viewer stays engaged, resulting in a higher chance of converting. Of course if you don’t have time to do any of this then you could just hire us to do it.
